Holiday Nails (A Tutorial)

[title subtitle="Nail Art"]Shattered Glass[/title] Shattered glass... sounds a little dangerous, doesn't it? Don't worry, the entire process is painless. Now that the fashion world has pivoted towards neutral and darker shades, I figure it's about time we jazz it up with a little extra bling.

Shattered glass or holographic designs are the latest nail trend. They're known for giving your nails a dimensional effect. Just to give myself an extra challenge, I tried the entire process out in a car. It was totally do-able, by the way!

You'll be needing:

  • Dark nail polish (I’m using Essie's “After School Boy Blazer")
  • A top coat (I'm using Seche Vite's "Dry Fast")
  • Scissors
  • Iridescent paper (I purchased mine from Michaels)

Begin by cutting the iridescent paper into random shapes like so.

Next, prep your nails.

After prepping your nails and adding a base coat, paint two coats of polish on each nail. Take your top coat brush and gently pick up each shape and finish by randomly placing them on to each individual nail. There is no pattern. It's easier when you don't think too much about the placement! After securing the shapes to your liking, remember to put top coat on before you move on to the next nail.

Ta-da! There you have it. You can also try this nail art with a lighter color polish or even a clear base!
